“What’s in a name; a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Shakespeare wrote those words for Romeo and Juliet. Names meant something in ancient times. Today, people seem to pick names by how they sound not what they signify. Every year a list comes out with the most popular names for boys and girls. I’m always shocked by the list of names. People’s names often changed when a significant event happened in their lives, e.g. Jacob to Israel. Names meant something: Jesus means “God saves,” the savior, for example. God says He is the one who is. “I am Who I am.” Knowing someone’s name meant you had some power over them. God says His name you can’t say. He is the one. It is none of our business.
