WK22A (2017)

One of the main themes of this week’s readings is “obedience.” Jeremiah must obey God’s Words. Jesus must obey His heavenly Father. (He is on the way to Jerusalem to suffer and die for you and me.) And, obedience is for us, too. We are called to be like Jeremiah and Jesus. We are called to proclaim God’s Word. Like Jeremiah and Jesus we are called to suffer. Jesus says, “Take up your cross and follow Me.” This is how we are to show our obedience. Suffering is not the goal, but the price of discipleship. To take up our cross means to let go of the ways and values of the world. To follow Jesus, we must give up our lives for Jesus.
